NON-LUCRATIVE
VISA SPAIN

One of the easiest pathways for non-EU citizens to obtain European residency.

The Spain Non-Lucrative Visa is one of the most straightforward residency options for non-EU nationals who wish to live in Spain without engaging in local employment.

Many of our clients receive their residency cards in as fast as 2 months, supported by our extensive track record and case experience.

Why Choose the Spain Non-Lucrative Visa?

Simple Requirements

The Spain Non-Lucrative Visa is one of the most accessible residency pathways in Europe, with only two core requirements:

  • Proof of sufficient financial means

  • A clean criminal record for the past five years

With no investment requirement and no need to establish a company, this visa is ideal for individuals and families seeking a smooth and stress-free move to Spain.

Who Is This Visa Ideal For?

1. Retirees Seeking a Peaceful Life in Spain

Perfect for those who want to enjoy the country’s climate, lifestyle, beaches, low cost of living, healthcare, and excellent public services. (Note: This visa does not allow you to work in Spain; therefore, you must declare zero local personal income tax.)

2. Parents Accompanying Children for Education

Spain offers high-quality public and private education, with many public schools available free of charge.

Many international families choose Spain to provide their children with:

  • A safer and healthier lifestyle

  • Multilingual education opportunities

  • European exposure and cultural experience

  • A more balanced and less stressful upbringing

The visa allows families to relocate together and build a long-term future in Spain.

Key Advantages of the Non-Lucrative Visa
  • Live legally in Spain without the need to work

  • Travel freely within the Schengen Area

  • Enjoy Spain’s healthcare, lifestyle, climate, and education system

  • Benefit from a lower cost of living than many Western countries

  • Include multiple family members under one application, including spouse, children, and dependent parents

  • Convert to a work permit, self-employed permit, or business-related residency after one year

  • Become eligible for Permanent Residency after five years

  • Become eligible to apply for Spanish citizenship after ten years

Financial Requirements

The main requirement is demonstrating sufficient financial means.

Current guideline amounts are approximately:

  • €28,800 per year for the main applicant

  • €7,500 per year for each additional dependent family member

Funds may be held in overseas or Spanish bank accounts, provided ownership and availability can be clearly demonstrated.

The visa is initially granted for one year and is then renewed under a 1 + 2 + 2 structure.

After completing five years of legal residency, applicants may apply for Permanent Residency.

Residency Requirements

To Renew the Visa

Applicants are generally expected to spend at least 183 days per year in Spain.

To Apply for Permanent Residency

Applicants must reside in Spain for at least 52 months within the first five years.

To Apply for Spanish Citizenship

Applicants must:

  • Hold Permanent Residency status

  • Demonstrate sufficient physical presence in Spain

  • Pass the DELE A2 Spanish language examination

Once Permanent Residency is obtained, there is generally no minimum stay requirement if the objective is simply to maintain PR status rather than pursue citizenship.

Documents Required

Typical required documents include:

  • Police Clearance Certificate covering the previous five years

  • Medical Certificate compliant with WHO 2005 International Health Regulations

  • One-year full-coverage private health insurance with no co-payment

  • Bank statements and financial proof

  • Birth certificates for dependent children

  • Marriage certificate for spouse applications

  • Additional supporting documents depending on family composition
